Tips for Enjoying a Summer Soiree with the Guilt

We love a summer get together! But sometimes we over do it and leave feeling not so festive. You don’t have to blow your entire day’s worth of calories on one meal when you make a few simple changes. We’re all about enjoying everything in moderation! We hope our suggestions help you enjoy yourself!

 

1.    Keep calm and make it yourself. Instead of buying sugary store-bought popsicles or ice cream bars, try making them yourself with healthier ingredients. Blend your favorite fruits with coconut water and a sweetener like honey or agave and pop them in the freezer for a few hours for homemade popsicles. These are fun to serve at a party as a refreshing dessert. We’re eager to try a watermelon and mint combination for our next get together. What’s on your menu?

 

2.    Lighten up recipes by swapping just one thing. Say goodbye to buns, and wrap those burgers in some butter lettuce instead. The lettuce will still give you that nice crunch you crave when you bite into a burger --- but without the extra calories. We’re also sweet on the idea of making a watermelon margarita without the pre-made syrupy stuff. Simply blend the watermelon with your tequila of choice and a little lime juice. No need to buy flavored mix when you have the real deal. It’s practically a smoothie, right?

 

3.    Mix up some mocktails. Mocktails are a great option if you want to skip the calories of alcohol. You’ll have no problem saying bye bye to booze with these fun recipes from Buzzfeed. If you’re hitting multiple parties during the course of your holiday weekend, try sticking with mocktails during the day and then switching to cocktails in the evening. You can save yourself some serious calories (and possibly a headache).
